What is this event?
Every summer a volunteer fire department (or departments) hosts the largest gathering of volunteer firefighters in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Initial activities include business meetings, but after that it's all FUN! These firefighters are members of your communities that respond to fires and emergencies at all hours of night and day. This event is one way that firefighters say "Thank You" for your support. It is also a way for communities to say "Thank You" to their volunteer firefighters. Come out and watch the parades! Cheer on your favorite departments at the firefighter races! Enjoy good food, and dance into the night!
Highlights:
Drum & Bugle Corps, Ishpeming Blue Notes, Marquette Fife & Drum Corp, and Marty's Goldenaires are anticipated to perform in one or both parades on Thursday night. Don't be surprised if spontaneous concerts occur between parades.
Firefighter races on Friday feature many firefighters using their firefighting skills to beat the clock while performing tasks safely and completely. No fire is involved. Water will flow.
Food and beverages should be available on Thursday 11 AM until midnight and Friday 10 AM until midnight.
A beautifully restored 1930 Ford Model AA fire truck will be on display on Friday.
Glass Joe is performing under the tent on Thursday night.
Next Myle is performing under the tent on Friday night.
The silent auction will include interesting items such as an ornate carved clock, a commemorative 9-11 fire helmet, and a compound hunting bow.
Raffle tickets are available now until early Friday evening July 25th. Prize amounts are $1000, $750, $500, $250, and $100.
